Natural Economy vs. God’s Economy


In the natural economy, we experience such things as debt, bankruptcy, recession, depression and other financial crises. But in God’s economy there is no such thing as want, lack, recession or depression.

Yet because most of us are not aware of God’s economy and His willingness to provide financial abundance, we need to be strengthened in our faith when it comes to the area of finances.

God’s Economy Requires Faith


Faith is the confident belief that God takes action in our lives and that His action is for our ultimate benefit. Much of the struggle we have in the Christian life is not believing that God can do something, but believing that He will. One of the areas that tests our trust in God is the realm of finances.

Many of us, as a matter a fact, find it hard to believe that God is interested in such practical things as finances. Yet Bible scholars tell us that one out of four of the teachings of Jesus related to our material possessions. As Christians, we are called to be stewards and, as referred to earlier, a steward is one who has been entrusted with another person’s property. Consequently, we are required to give a faithful accounting for that which God has entrusted to us.

If we are to become the kind of faithful, generous stewards that God intends for us to be, it will happen only as we come to understand how God operates in His own supernatural economy and how we, in faith, can receive His supernatural resources.

A Kingdom Perspective on Money


To desire great wealth and to spend a lifetime in search of prosperity and affluence is to abuse the time on earth that God has given to each of us. But to use money as a tool, rather than a means to accumulate material goods, is the best route to take.

You may have noticed that it is not having money itself, rather the love of money, that is said to be evil. Some people would rather ruin their health for money. Others tread on friendships and the innocence of others to enable them to accumulate the goods and riches of this world.

Of course, if you stop and think about it, neither money nor fame can guarantee happiness. Countless celebrities and countless people of wealth could attest to a life of shallow existence. The Scriptures make it clear that we have brought nothing into this world and it is certain that we can carry nothing out. Any natural accumulation of money is only handed down in our wills to someone else. But one thing is sure. While earthly accumulation cannot help us in our death, it is clear that the spiritual treasures which can be accumulated while we are still on this earth will pass with us to eternity.

Lives that are chaotic with materialism are unfulfilled, but peace and contentment from above are priceless. If we know Jesus Christ, we are eternally rich. If we live only for the pleasures of this life, we are eternally poor. In Christ, all believers have been given a position of prestige, honor and privilege as heirs of God and joint-heirs with Jesus Christ. We do not have to wait for death to make our promised inheritance a reality. According to Scripture, He bestows His blessings upon us daily.
